How good are John Lewis at dealing with laptops?

Hmm so I've just had a phone call quoting £600 for a fix. The person on the phone couldn't say what had caused it, just that he would be sending it back to the store if I didn't wish to pay, and whatever had wrong wasn't covered under warranty. Despite another call to JL they still can't give any further information. Pretty useless given I'd explicitly asked for an explanation.0

First post answered the question .
<I am gutted to say my Macbook Pro has become damaged >
Damage is not covered under warranty .
You could commission an independent report to try to prove its not damage but a manufacturing flaw.0 -
Well I'm glad there are more understanding people than yourself out there!
As I say it's not typical damage, John Lewis note themselves it's lines on the screens suggesting LCD damage you can't feel any cracks on the screen.0 -
If it was me - and I am only saying if it was me - then I would pay for the repair and then I would take John Lewis to the small claims court because clearly a laptop should last longer than 15 months
one caveat this is only if I'm 100% sure the screen crack was not caused by my dropping it etc!0 -
By the way I am sure you know that your claim is against John Lewis and you don't have to deal with apple at all apple have nothing to do with this you bought the machine from John Lewis and that is who you deal with0

Sod all to do with John Lewis - do you not have accidental damage insurance?0

The poster was correct though. A crack in a screen is accidental damage, unless you can prove otherwise, which is unlikely. It's not covered under the warranty. You could go the other routes suggested but independent advice may be costly and a small claims case may or may not be successful. Your choice.Well I'm glad there are more understanding people than yourself out there!Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0 -
It would be worth having a look at how much a replacement screen would be then fitting yourself.
I'm not 100% sure about Apple products but I've swapped out a couple of other manufacturers laptop screens and it really is an unbelievably easy / quick job. (there are usually guides on how to do it for different models on the net). Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0
