Sending off DL after speeding offence - why?
My question prompted by a recent question about a license lost in post.
Why do we have to send off our driving licenses after a speeding offence?
As its all computerised nowadays is this just an opportunity to make sure you have renewed it every 10 years or is there some specific reason they need to physically see it. If your license was invalid then surely the authorities would already know.
Thanks

Its to ensure the right person gets the points. To prevent you putting down your neighbours name and paying the fine for him.0

The police can find out if your photo has expired without seeing your licence.0 -

How does that work then?
I'm just going through the same, all they asked for was my licence number.... no need to send it!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Then ask for the driving licence number and maybe National Insurance number. You're unlikely to have that information at hand for your neighbour and if you miraculously do obtain it and use it as you describe then you'll have committed an offence just like those individuals who swap points.
This administrative process is an anachronism left over from when there were paper licences and subsequently paper counterparts that showed what endorsements you had. Time to get rid.0
