Charged for sending a payment

Ok so is this right? My son has paid a deposit from his bank account today for a flat that he will be renting. He tried to send the payment via online banking but it wouldnt work as he has changed his mobile phone and it wanted to send a code to the old phone to allow it and also said it wouldn’t be at the receiving account for 2 days. He had forgotten to change his mobile number on his account details. He went in branch instead and asked them to send the money across for him which they did but have charged him £25 to do it! Is this right? Is charging you to pay your own money to someone a thing now? I’ve not come across it before! He has £2k in his bank to make the £1200 deposit so it’s nothing to do with the money not being there if you see what I mean!

What bank?
And what type of transfer did he request?0 -
Lloyd!!!8217;s and he asked for a faster payment0
-
It sounds like the bank has done it as a CHAPS payment.0
-
Is that the only way it could be done then? Because it was for £1200?0
-
Almost certainly a CHAPS fee. Did he insist that it must arrive the same day?0

According to documentation, Lloyds charge £30 for CHAPS0

They met with landlord to sign the contract and for him to put the keys in their hands. He wouldn!!!8217;t give the keys without seeing the deposit in his bank this morning, I had lent 700 towards it and son had the rest but only got paid today so it had to be done today. He has the keys now and it!!!8217;s been paid it!!!8217;s just I couldn!!!8217;t understand why he would have to pay the fee but think I get it now - doesn!!!8217;t seem fair though lol!0

Chances are that a faster payment would have been fine but it's not guaranteed, unlike CHAPS if the instruction is given early enough0

CHAPS has been a thing for a very long time.0 -
If the payment method attracted a fee, branch staff should have asked him if it was okay to pay using that method.november.rain_40 wrote: »... If this was me, I would have withdrawn the money at branch and gone and deposited it personally to the landlords bank. Cash deposits are credited to the account immediately!0
