Is the issue the 6 month term, or is the issue of the termination date being one day short of a round 6 month period the problem? I have focused on the latter in my reply.

Also, I would agree, some short-sighted landlords think by only committing to a 6 month tenancy they only have to pay the agent for 6 months into/letting fee. However, in most cases the fees are due for the duration of the tenancy!. Silly though, as unless a landlord is looking to obtain vacant possession for a specific reason, it would surely be better to secure income for a full year.

Thank you, everyone, for the replies - I'm going to try and get an answer from the estate agent but by the time they answer (they are rubbish with responses) I will be onto a periodic tenancy.

just write to them stating you dont want to resign for 6 months, and are happy for to roll onto a periodic tenancy agreement. The letting agents cannot stop you doing this and then can no longer fleece you for fees every 6 months.

All you will do is start a discussion which will become an argument!

If you've moved onto a periodic - do nothing!
