How to get rid of fairy moss

My lawn is slowly getting taken over by fairy moss. I have tried weed killers and moss killers but they don't work including lawn sand. I have found salt kills it bu it comes back again and is spreading something terrible. The recent dry spell and the salt has helped a lot but I can see it coming back in places especially shady areas. I have even chopped down some of the trees to make the garden less shady and damp in places but I am sill loosing the battle.

Is it definitely fairy moss you have? I've always thought that was aquatic - I have it in my wildlife ponds and usually just skim it off so it doesn't take over.0

Moss on lawns thrives in damp & shade .... unless you can change those conditions it will always return.0

My father never had a problem with moss. His lawn was always perfect.
But now me looking after the same lawn and it's riddled with moss year after year.
I think the main reason is because there is now little nutrient in the soil.
I use weed feed and moss killer but doesn't really help.
I take on board the shady, damp reasoning but my father never had that problem with the same lawn. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0
