Transactions showing as “pending” on my banking app have now been voided. When will the funds show?

I made some online transactions with my debit card. The transactions show as “pending” on my Lloyds app and my available funds is fatter deduction of these amounts.

I have now learned that these transactions have been voided. The money is not going to be taken.... so when will the transactions been deleted from pending transactions and the cash back as available funds?

  • What is supposed to happen is the company that earmarked the funds to cover the transaction, is supposed to reverse their authorisation request so the pending transaction will disappear.

Sadly, that hardly ever happens, so you will need to speak to your bank to see what process they have in place for retaining a pending transaction on your account when no corresponding debit comes in.

I would guess they will keep it in place anywhere between 14 and 30 days. The latter time is most likely because that is probably how long the retailer is allowed to get the transaction presented to his bank and processed through to yours.
  • I don't think it will be as long as 14-30 days - more like 3-7.
  • I had pending transactions for over a week which I couldn't work out what they were for so sent a message to the bank through the website. Conversation went like

    Me:
In my Overview of accounts there is a difference between the Balance and Available balance of about £432 which has been there for over a week.

I can't think what this could be for. Are you able to provide details please?

I can certainly check this out for you. I have just taken a look into your current account and can see that you do currently have £421.74 pending on your current account however this payment does have a 0 authorisation code which means that it wasn't fully authorised.

Not to worry, I have just sent an email over to our Visa Team and this amount should be back on your available balance within the next 2 working days.

Ummm - have you asked them to cancel your card and send out a new one?

  • No, can you tell me what the danger signals are from this?

NW did block a few payments at the beginning of the month pending review of the activity but all the transactions they showed me were genuine

There's been a £400ish transaction that was registered against your card that you're unaware of - that would be enough of a danger signal for me. It may not have been fully authorised but I would err on the side of caution.

Thank you LobsterMemory - I have called my bank and they’re looking into it. I hope they turn it around as quick as your bank did.

Glad it was sorted quickly but at the risk of being pedantic, the money never actually left your account, it was merely reserved (and therefore unavailable for other use), as you recognised at the top:
