PPI mis-selling complaint upheld - but no payout due...??!!

I have been informed by Halifax that they have upheld my PPI mis-selling complaint (in relation to a mortgage I took out with them). They have apologised for 'any upset or inconvenience' but have advised that 'there is no redress payment due'. Their reason for this is that I am 'in the position I would have been in had I not taken out the MPPI'. My understanding was that, if I have been mis-sold PPI, I would be due compensation. Is this not the case?
I intend taking my case to the Ombudsman, but wondered if any of you Forumites have any advice regarding the statement from Halifax that I am not due a payment.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Ask them why.
Did you make a claim on the policy?
Did you make any payments to the policy or did you cancel it?0 -
I never made a claim on the policy and completed all the payments. it was never cancelled...0

Did you have pay any premiums?
Some lenders had a free policy for x months and you only paid if you chose to keep it after the free period.
Halifax had a multi-segment plan that had a PPI segment but only if it was selected. So, they may be referring to that plan (for instance if you had only the life assurance element) in that you had a plan that was PPI capable but never paid any premiums under it.
Most common wording for that response though is if you had a claim on the policy and payout exceeded the premiums paid.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). This makes sense - they have said that I had a Total Mortgage Protection Plan (TMPP), which included Mortgage Repayments Cover (MRC), Life Cover and Critical Illness Cover, and that a separate amount was charged for each element of the plan and then combined into a single monthly cost. Halifax have advised that only the MRC is a form of PPI. Under their breakdown, it states that total refund of PPI premiums is £0.00. Does that then imply that I never paid any premiums? It is not clear (to a dunderhead like me!) from the information they have sent.
I definitely never made a claim under the policy though.0 -
The wording does imply that you never paid any MRC premiums (hence the refund of £0.00) but it is worth double checking they didn't make a mistake on the letter. If you did have a free trial that was never taken up, you would of course not be entitled to any money back.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You'll only know for sure when you get clarification from the Bank.Halifax have advised that only the MRC is a form of PPI. Under their breakdown, it states that total refund of PPI premiums is £0.00. Does that then imply that I never paid any premiums?
Don't waste the Ombudsman's time with this until you are certain.0
