checking my electricity meter reading today (lived in house for 1 week) I worked out we have used 45KWh

Not sure if this is good or bad? :rotfl::rotfl:

Oddly low I would say. But I don't know what you use or your house size/no of occupants/when you are in etc.

Look for your high use items. Electric shower for instance? Expect 4 units a day for just that! (Ok so maybe some people shower for less time than me but that is really my difference in moving from a house with electric shower to one powered by the boiler).

I work from home most of the time so use more. 3 bed/2 occupants. 15 units a day is around what I use. You don't mention gas? You will not be using muc hright now I expect. I average (over the year) 3 units a day. (5200 and 12000 kwh respectivly).

Yeah reading other comments I would guess this is pretty low and unusual, once we get settled in and into a routine I'm sure our usage will increase and find a normal rhythm.
We currently have central heating but have an electric shower which will be replaced with a boiler fed one eventually. our oven is gas and currently don't have a microwave so I would imagine this helps with the lower than usual power usage.

    ok so a small update.

I have now set up a switch to Eversmart to a considerably lower tariff than EDF and my transfer date is set for 12th September.

    What happens now?

Its been a few weeks since i started the switch process and I've not really had much communication from Eversmart, is this normal up until a week before the switch; which I'm guessing is when they will ask for meter readings?

Should i be contacting them to check that everything with the switch is ok?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

Did Eversmart give you a changeover date when they confirmed the switch was in progress ? This switch can take some weeks to complete - when did you do start it ? I assume after Aug 20 - if so its early days.

    There's no need to chase.

You may be aware already, but if not there’s an Eversmart feedback thread on this forum,...probably worth your while having a peek.

ok so the sooner we register and switch the better then seeing as we are currently on a standard variable rate tariff?

yeah we have spent all weekend moving in so now we are trying to get on top of making sure we are set up for all the utility/council bills ect.

Ah I see, Using money saving experts 'Cheap Energy Club' it is currently coming up as saying Yorkshire Energy is the cheapest provider at £89/Month on a 12month fix Dual Fuel tariff, £0 early exit fee.

When I completed the form I said I didn't know our energy usage, should I re-start with the above figures to see if that changes anything?

This is an old(ish) thread now, but as its something that comes up often it's worth saying.

In my experience, the order of suppliers/tariffs from cheapest to most expensive won't change unless you use an exceptionaly high or low amount of energy, and even if they do it will have a trivial effect on the cost you pay vs the cost you could have paid.

What might (and almost certainly will) change is the direct debit you pay each month. It's important to remember that, if you underestimate, and the DD goes up, it doesn't mean you didn't pick the cheapest company, if you use more you pay more, regardless of the supplier. Some suppliers are better than others at managing credit/debit balances so you don't get a shock catch up bill (make sure you submit regular readings, especially in the first year so you get a feel for consumption yourself) but you only ever pay for what you use.

When you consulted the MSE CEC, what data did you input as your current supplier & tariff?
Because that was obviously wrong, so yes, start again.

The current supplier details are irrelevant in this case. There's no need to compare to their existing (SV) tariff as its obviously not going to be competitive

This is completely incorrect and very poor advice. The deemed contract system has been in place for over 30 years now, and if you attempt to switch without being registered with the existing supplier, then the switch will most likely be blocked.
Worse, it can go unnoticed for quite some time until the deemed supplier realises they're not getting paid and reverses the switch. Then the 'chosen' supplier has to refund all the money they received, which will almost certainly be a lot less than the SVT bill from the deemed supplier for the same period that's on the way!
