Minor Car Accident/Prang

Hi all,
Had a minor car orang last week - have notified insurance company as is standard procedure.
Damage to their rear bumper is minimal, and I mean cosmetically it looks slightly different up close. Have agreed to settle privately, as I highly doubt it will be any more than £250 (if that) and no brackets broken etc
My questions are;
- What details do I need to settle privately?
- Can I ask to see both the quotes and contact the garages to pay direct or give the guy the cash?
- What documentation, if any, do I need to sign etc to confirm I’ve paid? I.e. don’t want to pay then find they make another claim for money from me...
Thanks all

Why would you want to settle privately now you have notified your insurers as your premiums may go up regardless?
How many years NCD do you have and is it protected?0 -
Legally you have to notify the insurance company and secondly it!!!8217;s on a company policy.
I would like to focus on the required course of action for a private settlement as above please.
Thanks0 -

My questions are;
- What details do I need to settle privately? - Their bank account?
- Can I ask to see both the quotes and contact the garages to pay direct or give the guy the cash? - you can ask, but they can refuse. They are under no obligation to fix anything.
- What documentation, if any, do I need to sign etc to confirm I’ve paid? I.e. don’t want to pay then find they make another claim for money from me... - you are open to another claim for the next 6 years, whatever you sign or say.
Thanks all
Seems foolish settling privately, but best of luck0 -

What makes you think the damage will cost £250 to fix? Do you have access to Audatex or something?
There!!!8217;s nothing stopping the the third party presenting a claim for PI once you settle the damage element of their claim.
Stop being an idiot and let your insurers deal.0 -

What you term minimal and what is actually wrong could be two different things - someone ran in to the back of me at low speed once, looked to be minimal damage so we just left it at that with it being an old banger I was in - only when I got the car up on the ramps could I see the proper damage - you could be talking quite a bit of cash for a bumper repair, especially if a crumple zone or anything similar has been affected.0
