Yay!!! Managed to get the Be Ro book in Morries today for £1.08 I think it was. Nearly missed it though as it was very hard to see. Had a quick flick through and it looks good.

Incidentally Be Ro and McDougalls flour are on BOGOF at Morries right now.

Freya's Mum - my Leith's Book has been sent - can't wait to get it now!

Hi Clutterfree I have the Marguerite Patten one..It's a lovely book with lots of background info in it to the changing ways in which we've cooked over the years..recipes however are a little basic.I have a lot (:o :o ) of MP books and really I can say its just a few recipes from each of her other books..nothing new. This would be a great book for someone who needs a good solid base to a new recipe collection but for any old hands with groaning shelves like me its not really essential HTH D XX

I do hope you like it as much as I do :) It has rather a lot of recipes in it, so you should be able to find 'one or two' :D

    Hi,

Just wanted to ask if you had gotten the book and, if so, what you thought?

  • I have the Leith's Cookery Bible and it's fab - it's going to be one of those books that i still have in 20 years time when it's falling apart. It's the one I turn to when I need to know things like how long to roast something for or how to make a sauce.

Yes I got it and it is great!
I never realised it would be so thick!
I came on here to tell you but it was when the site was down.

I am going to attempt the American Carrot Cake at the weekend.
I did a thread earlier today enquiring if Philadelphia f/f soft cheese is the same as f/f CREAM cheese! :o

That's good and it is a huge book :D Glad you're enjoying it. The carrot cake is great. Hehe, i don't know why people insist on having about a dozen different names for the same thing anyway.

Btw, half fat cream cheese does work, it just makes the icing a little runnier. Also, I didn't put the walnuts in the first time - they were all sitting ready to go in and half-way through baking, I realised I had forgotten them! But it doesn't make a difference to the taste. There will probably be a texture difference, but I don't really notice. It also makes the thing a bit cheaper, too :)
