Hi all,
Brief history.. I bought an engagement ring for my partner on Friday. When I spoke to the sales advisor I informed him if my partner wasn't keen on the ring would I be able to. Do an exchange or refund. He informed me yes we can exchange it and a refund was possible if the ring was still boxed.
After taking my partner in town she found one identical to the ring I bought and to my horror doesn't like it. I contacted the store and was told 'sorry but we don't do refunds'.
Does anyone know where I stand? The advisor clearly told me I could. Get a refund.

No refund. They don't have to refund if you/she changes your mind. The advisor was wrong and there nothing you can do about it.0 -
Did you actually go in the store? I'd visit the store and talk to the same assistant along with the manager if necessary.0

Unless you have some written down or you can get the sales adviser to admit they said that, then you simply have a he said she said argument.0 -
Not true, in this case they said it was more or less ok if the ring was still boxed. This forms part of the contract, proving the assistant said that is another matter. No refund. They don't have to refund if you/she changes your mind. The advisor was wrong and there nothing you can do about it.0 -
If it was me, I would wait until the same person was working in the store then get a friend to go in and ask to see a similar ring and then ask the store assistant if a return would be possible if the ring was not suitable but making sure that they had a mobile phone recording what was being discussed.
If they say that a return/exchange would be okay, make sure that your friend declines the purchase.
They go back to the store and play the recording to the manager or owner.
I know that covert recording is illegal but then again, so is lying to customers in order to make a sale.0 -
