TV - what's up?

Hi,

Hope you can help - may be dead obvious to you lot but I don't understand such things.

Our TV started with an intermittent fault - kept crackling & losing picture, then settling again, but has got progressively worse, so that now it's unusual to get a picture or sound at all, although it still displays the channel number in the top left of the screen. It seemed like a loose connection but we've tried every connection we can think of.

However, if we turn on the digibox there's no problem at all - the TV set is capable of transmitting the picture & sound perfectly well.

So - is that telling us anything?

Many thanks for any pointers.

Have you tried re-tuning the channels?

I assume that you mean that when the TV is fed from your digibox, that sound and vision are displayed normally - TV's don't transmit, they receive!

It sounds like a tuner fault, if other input sources work OK.

Could possibly be an aerial fault if your digibox is Sky or Virgin Cable. If it is a freeview box then it looks like a tuner fault.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    aerial fault most likely.
connections have to be just about perfect for a decent reception, esp depending where you live.
    Get some gorm.

    It's a freeview box.

This morning the TV's working fine on its own; not a flicker or a crackle:10 to 1 it'll break up again, but still be OK via digibox.

Am I right thinking that the tuning wouldn't come & go?

I'm assuming that your Freeview box connects to the TV via a scart lead, which is a totally separate input. The tuner could drift depending on the fault. If you have a video connected to the TV, try using that to select channels.
