in Credit cards
Hi guys
Bit a of a stupid question today.
I have had a letter for my clarity card saying they are going to increase my limit from £2,000 to £2,500. I know £500 isn’t a lot and even then 2.5k isn’t a lot ethier. I don’t go anywhere near the limit and I’ve had the card for about 3 years now.
The question I have is will they do another credit check before increasing it. It does say about final checks and that. I’m guessing it’s credit search. I haven’t got anything to worry about really as I have no ccj or defaults. I have recently passed checks for virgin account and to rent a place as well. So shouldn’t see it a worry. I do have next store card with £3000 on it. Not that I go anywhere near it.
So I know it isn’t a lot but any one answer my stupid question of the day please

Not a stupid question at all, Credit limit increases (from what I believe only) are offered because the company has analysed your spending/payment record and are happy your keeping your account in order and running it well, that's the reason the automatic increase has come, I don't believe a hard credit search would be performed to offer an increase in your limit, others may have a different answer/opinion. Final checks would say to me they will see if you have gone over your limit, missed payments, late payments etc etc.
Definitely no worry needed.0 -
Definitely not a stupid question!! Whenever I've had a credit limit increase, there's never been a 'hard' or 'soft' search recorded on my credit report. I believe they will just assess you against their criteria, based on your history of managing your accountI work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Cant speak for Clarity...i know that 1ST Direct 100% do a credit check as they did on me whilst discussing an increase.
So yes some CC do hard search.0 -
Hmm interesting did you ask for the increase though or was it an automatic one the reason I ask this is you mentioning you had a discussion about it?
My increases when they have happened have just been applied no discussion necessary.0 -
For me Nationwide offer me increases but ask me to phone them to confirm.0

Yes they offered increase...if you accept just wait 30days or can call now letter...but went for higher limit,so both really.
Higher limit could have triggered the search.0 -
