Moving to a new place

Options
Hi

I have recently moved to a place of my own from my parents. I have only changed my address at work, gp and hospital. Obviously my bills are in my new address.

I haven’t informed my banks of my new address and it still has old address on my credit files.

I don’t know how long I’m going to be here for and my mother said not to change my bank over as it can be a faff to change back again if I need to.

It's not a faff, and would make it easier when applying for credit or other accounts requiring ID checks.

But if you're only there for a couple of months, then I'd leave it.

Definitely not a faff, can either do it over the phone or by letter.

Oh thought you had moved out permanently, in that case maybe leave it. Would council tax not need to be paid where your living now ?

I did just that while at university as I was living in accommodation for 9 months at a time, then moving onto the next place (did 4 years all in all) and I didn't want to end up with personal stuff going to the old address. With one place I even left stickers for redirecting mail but none were ever used so to me it's easier to have all post etc still going to parents house, then when moving somewhere permanent, get your details like bank, DVLA, electoral roll etc sorted

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
