Standard Life Mortgage Protection Plan

Hi
Looking for some advice. When I first took out a mortgage, I was advised to take out protection just incase I took I'll & was unable to work & unable to pay my mortgage. I took one out with Standard Life & I tried to make a claim, and was told that I was not covered as it was only critical illness cover that I had. Would I be able to claim against this & how do I go about it? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Critical Illness Insurance is not PPI (Payment Protection Insurance).
So there doesn't appear to be anything you can complain about

Should I cancel this when my mortgage is paid off or should I continue to pay it?0

Don't complain on the forum, though, if you subsequently develop a Critical Illness and so cannot claim...0 -

You bought critical illness cover, that is why it wouldn't pay out for some other issue (lost your job or had some illness not covered I guess?). You can complain of course but it is highly likely there is an extensive set of documents showing you were told what you were buying and agreed to it. Perhaps look into some form of income loss cover or speak to an advisor about the policies you need going forwards.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Were you actually told that or is that just bad memory recollection or just saying that in the hope you can put in a complaint? (be honest, we have seen people here do similar. It's all anonymous here so you can say with no harm).
The reason I say that is that it seems strange that you claim that you were advised to take out an insurance if you cannot work yet not actually have an insurance that does that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
