New Build Gas and Electricity

Hi there, I moved into my new house just over a month ago.
I was renting before and informed EDF that I would be moving. They got back to me a couple of weeks ago when I sent them the meter reads for my new house and they said that they don't supply the new house.

I have checked with my housing association as it is shared ownership and they tell me it is British Gas.

Can someone tell me what I am supposed to do moving forwards.
Not really sure if I want to use British Gas as they may not be as competitive. Do I need to register with them first, or can I compare the best energy tariffs and go with any company of my choosing?

You are on a deemed contract and supplied by BG, that is the legal status at the property. You need to contact BG, set up an account and give them the date you became responsible for the property and the meter reads on that date. Obviously you need to ensure you do not set up a locked in tariff leaving your options open. Once that is done you are free to commence a switch to whoever you wish.

Thanks very much. This is all new to me, so wasn't too sure how I move forward. I will get in touch with BG and give them my meter reads from the date I moved in along with my move in date.

    Thanks.
