First of all I think I better list all of my debts first (should have done this from the beginning

    Credit card 1: Limit 500 Balance 696.66
    Credit card 2: Limit 600 Balance 660.15
Grad. Bank Account: Limit 1500 Balance 1518.30
    Phone Bill Outstanding: 70
Outstanding Uni Bills (gas and electri) : 227
    Online clothes account : 700

Worst thing is I got no money to my name and I start a new job on Wednesday. Do not think I can ask my parents for petrol money because they are struggling at the moment too.

Its frustrating, I rang the credit card guys today to tell them that I get paid on the 7th Decemnber and they keep saying that I need to make a payment this month. How many times do I have to tell them I havent got anything.

Its getting to the point where I am considering ignoring the credit cards this month (even though I've missed two payments for both cards already and will be passed on to a Debt collecton agency) just until I get paid.

If anyelse has any bright ideas, I am all ears.

    Hi there

I really don't think I have any other advice.....what are the payments you need to make on your cards this month? Are you getting jobseekers allowance or anything at all - surely you must be entitled to come kind of benefit until you have your new job? Even if you could offer them £5 each this month they may be happier than with nothing at all? Anyway I partly just wanted to get this post back up the list so the others can see if they can think of anything else at all....

Literally pay them SOMETHING-even a couple of quid. It'll help keep them off your backs.
As this is an accountancy job so presumably Monday to Friday how about a weekend job in a bar or somesuch just to tide you over til Christmas. Some even pay weekly which would be a Godsend to you at this point and plenty of places want people just until new year so it's a good fit. Even if they aren't advertising drop in a CV-often it's just a CV arriving at the right time-and this is just when things start picking up in bars, pubs, Harvesters and the like. Places that also do food as especially good as there are the works Christmas do's starting this month.

Lol I have already thought of a Saturday job and I have managed to persuade my parents to let me work in their family business on the weekends but still not enought to cover both the petrol and credit card costs.

But maybe enough to send the CCs a few £ each?

Have you asked your folks to loan you a little bit of money this month? Also you didn't say if you were receiving any kind of benefit.

I think the other thing to bear in mind and not to scare you, but if your going into accountancy you really need to keep your credit record healthy so just bung them a few £ if possible to keep them at bay till you get your first lovely paycheck :-)

Hiya (apologies if this turns into a big post),

You say above that you have a graduate overdraft? Which bank is it with?

I have my graduate bank account with HSBC. When I first graduated (in 2005), HSBC let me exceed my overdraft without getting any charges. I even went down to -£1650 at one point (with an overdraft of £1500). I sometimes got a call from the bank asking "if I was okay", basically "when are we going to get our money back, etc". But there were no charges, I was even able to continue to take money out of cash points.

Of course, overspending on your overdraft isn't a good thing to do, but if your bank does what HSBC did for me, there's potentially £150 there to get your credit card people off your back. You will then need to budget so as not to go passed £1500 next month.

It's risky and you will need to watch your December spending really really carefully (i.e. only drinking Cokes on Xmas Eve), but it's an option.

Lol Thanks for the advice Hannah b but they must like you more than thy like me, the last timeI went over the 1500 (at HSBC as well) they charged me an Arrangement fee of £28 so I'd rather not risk it.

    But thanks for the idea.

:pDarn it! Worth a suggestion though.

I guess at the time it did have a "to go to be true" element. HSBC probably figured out they were losing out on lots of potential charges and became more strict.

    Hiya hon,

My son went to a jobseekers interview on a Thursday (about three weeks ago) and got offered a job the very next day (Friday) and started on the Monday.

Jobseekers still paid him some money this week though as I guess it's paid in arrears. They said this will be the final payment as they have received his communication regarding getting a job.

    AnyHOO :o

My point is: have you started this new job yet?

And could you get any JSA - if you haven't?

Other than that, get your bottom down to the CAB on Monday and get them to make all the lenders wind their necks in and give you a breathing space until pay day

and if that doesn't work then ring CCCS or Payplan and get them to go into bat on your behalf instead.

(and then keep an eye out for a better paid job! My son's on £14k as an office junior even though he's only got some not very fabulous GCSE's to his name, and they've promised him a payrise to £16k in about 8 weeks as long as he makes himself useful.)

    Good luck hon,

    Love Jacks xxx :D
