I am the original poster, I have never said that I am happy for someone to defraud the NHS.
In my view what this person is doing is wrong but as I was not sure I posted here asking.
Maybe because I said that anyone can say yes to a machine, is that why you seem to think I am happy?

I work for the NHS and these kind of scenarios drive me mad.

Your posts appear to advocate it and come across as if x did this would x get away with it..

I've never used the NHS. Never seen a Doctor and never had a sick day.

How would the system see me?

You'll be registered with a GP because you've not left the country (I assume).

I work in the rural highlands, GPs have much better idea of who their patients are and have much better control of who they have in their area. Because of the strain on our particular community (no one wants to live in the back of beyond and send their kids to a school with 1 teacher and high school is a boat ride and a bus away, there's no Tesco or Asda or anything remotely like city life), if you don't visit a GP for a certain length of time or if someone new registers with the doctor who lives in the same address as someone who hasn't been seen in a while a letter goes out asking them to send and return proof that they still live in the U.K. by X date. It keeps doctors lists realistic as otherwise the doctor would be refusing new people to the area because they're full when really a lot of people have moved out of catchment but it's also handy for hospital admissions.

If you don't return the letter then pitch up for a cataract operation 5 years later your old GP will transfer your records up here and it's fine, unless you've not had a U.K. GP because you've not been in the U.K.

If you've not registered with a GP ever then why not? My husbands not used his GP since school but he's still registered with one somewhere (I think he's still registered with the GP closest to his old school down in the central belt).

I don't know why all GPs don't do it, opticians all automatically recall their patients after so many years and they have much less funding in place and aren't an essential gateway to nhs services in the same way GPs are.

Since I left the RN I did register with a dentist, but not a Dr. So I suppose I had better do this as well. I only need to see him if I have too - So far, no need.

Rural Highlands sounds pretty much like the Falklands. Where one can look out over wide open nothingness!
