Estimated Smart Meter Readings

My parents had smart meter installed last year so they do not give SSE there readings anymore, there fixed tariff deal came to an end on 06/04/2018, they brought there bills to me to do an energy comparrison. But looking at there bill covering 30/01/2018 to 02/05/2018 they seem to be getting fiddled out of there charges.
The bill for this period had estimated readings when there fixed tariff stopped dates and readings below
between the dates of 30/01/2018 and 06/04/2018 they used 201 units
between the dates of 06/04/2018 and 02/05/2018 they used 268 units
Can you advise on how they may have come up with estimates readings as they are on smart meter and have been charged more in the last 26 days than the previous 65 days.
Wondering how many other people this has happened to

Are the readings still being estimated ?
The suppliers use various algorithms to make a calculated guess at consumptio. This may include the number of days in the month, the weather, look back at what you did last year. Basically its a guess.
Ring customer services with your own reading and ask them to report faulty communications.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Smart meters are so useless many lose comms after install and stop sending the reads back!!0
