Tool to check your browser favourites/bookmarks

I was going through my Firefox bookmarks manually checking for invalid and dead bookmarks and thought 'this seems like hard work'. I then came across an excellent free tool called AM-Deadlink which does the job and saves a lot of time:
AM-DeadLink detects broken links and duplicate entries in your browser's bookmarks. If a Bookmark has become unavailable you can choose to delete it. The program comes with an internal preview browser that allows you to take a quick look at your bookmarked sites from within the program. In addition, you can backup your entire collection to a ZIP file, download Favicons, export your Favorites, and more. AM-Deadlink works with Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla and Netscape, and it can also check links in CSV files.

Oh but why couldn't you have posted yesterday !
I spent last night going through around 100 of my old bookmarks
ah well - at least this should help with the 300 or so I have left
thanks
EDIT: AM-Deadlink tells me I actually have 800 bookmarks:eek:0 -
I've just downloaded it but can't get it to work. One of the reviews says:-
"Took a while to figure out I had to manually point to and open the correct bookmark file first, then after that you let the app scan for the changes, delete the bad one out yourself, then save the changed file back."
What do they mean "point to and open the correct bookmark file first"? Mine says I have 0 bookmarks... but I have got some!

Go to firefox in the dropdown menu on the left then show it where your bookmarks are:
C:\Documents and Settings\ <username> \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ <random number >.default\bookmarks
I was doing 'check bookmarks' (green box with tick) and it was working fine.
I decided to change it to 'check bookmarks and download favicons' (red apple) and my computer ground to a halt so I maybe won't use that option unless I'm not using the PC for while0 -
Not sure what your supposed to do when your finished.
Doesn't change your firefox bookmarks as it goes
I presume your supposed to save to comp, change then import??0 -

To save your changes, click the disk icon (next to the dropdown). If your browser is open, it displays a warning asking you to close it first. Restart your browser and you should find that the bookmarks have been changed/deleted.0 -
yeah
got rid of 40 out of date bookmarks and fixed a lot of old redirects0 -
Am I right in thinking that if you export Mozilla bookmarks to an HTML file, you can manually edit the file to remove the bookmarks you don't want - and then, in Mozilla's bookmark manager, you can use the shift key to highlight to delete all your bookmarks, then you can re-import them back from the edited exported HTML file?
Reason I ask is because Bookmark manager is clumsy, and only lets you edit one bookmark at a time. I would probably find it easier to edit them externally as an HTML file. But I haven't tried it yet - because I'm worried about losing all my bookmarks.
Thanks.0 -

On the Mozilla forum, see Third party software that alters or deletes bookmarks for extensions to Bookmarks Manager or alternative s/ware.0
