New home owner, losing job

Options
Hi.
I've recently bought a property but have been told I'm losing my job - the redundancy package is not great as I've not been in the job for very long. The job seemed solid.
I'm single which is real concern financially. I'm probably taking on freelance work (I'm a graphic designer) but won't be enough to pay mortgage and bills each month. I didn't get round to buying mortgage insurance.
But has anyone else found themselves in this sticky situation? How did you deal with it? Has anyone else gone self-employed and been successful in terms of paying your mortgage, etc?
Thanks

Lots of successful people are self employed; but you would still be entitled to benefits which would certainly help pay the bills

I can claim for JSA and council tax support. Home owners paying mortgages get no additional help these days.

Is there not a loan in relation to at least mortgage interest?

Tell your mortgage provider - keep them informed.

    After 34 (36?) weeks.
  • Get a lodger in to help with the bills
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
  • Two points 1) speak to your lender asap see what help they can offer 2)SMI offers help after 39 weeks, but it is in the form of a loan not a benefit.
