Carpet Offcuts - what can I use them for?

Hi everyone

I haven't posted on here in a long time, but I'm hoping you can help. I got some new carpets fitted yesterday and I have loads of offcuts left. Some are quite a decent size and I'l like to be able to use them for something - but I'm not sure what..... Can anyone help please?

Thanks

If the off cuts are large enough then make them into mats - take them to your carpet shop and they can do it, at a cost obviously.

Odd bits can be used as door mats
    Or line the shed

To line a dug-out pond.....underneath the pond liner itself. Stops splits from sharp stones.

I use an off cut to line the boots of hubby's and my car. So when I clean my car all I need to do is remove the carpet and hoover it.
I have also used the off cuts as additional mats - hall way and kitchen floor.
You could also put an additional piece on the floor where hubby / grandad or anyone who is messy sits ( stops carpet being worn by their feet).
To line the bottom of a wardrobe.
If you have children they can become carpets in a dolls house.

If you garden, can be used for kneeling on - a bit of luxury :rotfl:

If you are moving can be used as furniture protection

If you've got decent size off cuts get them"whipped"
  • This made me smile, my dad was a sales rep for a carpet manufacturer, and nstead of rugs in the bedroom we always had carpet samples and offcuts. If you want to use off cuts for anything in the house, as above you need to get the edges 'whipped' or they will shed tufts all the time and drive you mad.

What a lot of people do is put them in the loft 'just in case'. In fact, if you do spill something, put the iron down, the dog chews it etc ... It's very unlikely that those off-cuts will be any use, you're more likely to need a complete replacement. I have yet to move into a house that doesn't have some in the loft!

Unless you have a pond to lay, or you want to carpet the understairs cupboard or similar, I'd bin them.

I've used them to stand on in the shed, in the porch for muddy boots or in the car boot.
