Worth claiming on insurance?
My husband's car is currently in the garage with damage to the hub, apparently it had fishing line wrapped around it (he remembers seeing it drop off a lorry that was shedding rubbish, but didn't realise it had gone under his car). It's costing us £650 to repair. He has fully comp insurance with protected no claims and minimal excess, so I am trying to work out if it is worth claiming on the insurance for it. Whilst he won't lose his no claims, I know that it will put his premiums up over the next few years, so I am just looking for some opinions on whether you would claim or not.
We have the money to fix it, but unfortunately that doesn't really mean we can 'afford' it. It's less than 3 years old, so we didn't expect big bills for it yet.

Does your car insurance cover repairs to the vehicle in these circumstances?
What would you claim for?Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -
I don't know actually, I thought it might be classes as an accident as it was outside damage. I'll have a look at the policy.
Assuming it were covered, what would your opinion be on whether it's worth claiming?0 -
Shame he hasn't a dash cam, he could've claimed directly from the lorry company. Did he take their reg?0

I don't think so. He didn't realise there was any damage at the time, he thinks that it had just flown off to the side of the road and did his best to keep his distance from the paper that was raining down. Dash cam would have been cheaper!0
