Almost 170 million old £1 coins still missing - here's what to do with yours - MSE News

As I recently posted elsewhere, I'm finding paying them in at the post office harder to do than they claim. Been rejected from both post offices in my town, despite a twitter conversation and receiving an email reply from post office both confirming that I can pay in old pound coins, but they still say no. :-( Local sub-postmasters singing a different tune to the one the post office claim their branches offer.
(Before anyone asks, yes I am trying to pay them in, not merely exchange them.
I have banked with Co-op bank and previously Girobank for over 30 years and the post office has always been my local "branch" for paying money in0 -
I reckon half the missing ones will be under drivers' seats..0

They are still legal tender in the Isle of Man....no one is mentioning that. That could be where a lot of them are still circulating! My husband works there once a month so he keeps getting them in his change0

On my local post office they also said No to me.. I'm going to ask at my HSBC branch as I have £10, but on their online chat they also said No...0 -

Worry over? If I found one I'd throw it in the bin.Katiehound wrote: »well now it's 170 million minus one! because I found a round pound in my car last week concealed in the hidey hole for loose change under some10 pences etc kept there for parking charges.
It went straight to Halifax and was exchanged for a shiny new one.
Worry over!!!
Take that MSEers :rotfl:I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
I've found one in a jacket I haven't worn for two years. It's going to the bank on Monday!0

So how much is it costing you to get to the bank? Could be a false economy, like driving 5-10 miles out of your way to save 1p/l on fuel
No, that would not be very MSE now. I'll wait until I'm next in town
(8 miles from home) for work on Monday and then just walk down the street to the bank. Cost...nil. Gain...one pound. And a walk too, win win.0
