Halifax Clarity, it's the one I have for travelling and it ticks all the boxes.

It may tick all your boxes but doesn't meet OP's stated desire for a 0% interest period, unlike some other options put forward above....
  • We want to be able to use a credit card for the duration we are away then pay it off when we return.
Then you want the Barclaycard Platinum Travel Card, which is absolutely the best deal around at the present time.

Assuming you can get a high enough credit limit to meet your needs- however, if that's a problem, it's also likely to be the same with all credit card providers.

As mentioned above, you won't get 3 months interest free credit on a "user friendly" cc which has no fees for foreign usage.

However, if you have sufficient funds available in a UK bank account, as you seem to suggest, you can settle the balance in full by online payment using a tablet, iPad or whatever by the appropriate date due to avoid interest charges being applied.

Assuming you have internet access of course.

If you have the funds available to cover all your outlays over the 3 months you appear to be good to go.
  • My apologies for butting into this conversation, but I have a slightly related question.
I am off to the US next month for a couple of weeks, and purchased some cash a while back when the exchange rate was better, but I will need a bit more, and the exchange rate is now rubbish! I use a Halifax Clarity card for my foreign travel, and know that it is a good way to buy and pay off, but is it a decent way to get cash from an ATM in the US? Many thanks in advance Bryan

If it is, there is no rule against making more than one payment in a month, or early, before the items have appeared on a statement.

True - just keep topping up their cc account to clear the balance as it nears its credit limit.

If the OP and his lady have the funds in hand to cover all their outlays (as seems to be suggested) - then they might just as well consider a "user friendly" debit card - Starling being the best deal IMO - and simply Pay As You Go on it.
