Something Fishy On My Credit Report

Have obtained my Experian credit report.

All as I would expect save under the heading "Linked Addresses", I am linked with an address in south London, in two links created by (a) Orange Personal Communications and (b) Hutchinson 3G Uk Ltd, both on 9th June 2007.

I have never lived at that address, never even heard of it, and have been living in my present address since 1991, all of 180 miles from London.

Probably something and nothing, but who should I approach to clear this up, Experian or the mobile phone companies concerned?

Has anyone else had something similar?

Never had similar, except that I lived in a new estate for a year and our address (Number 84) wouldnt show up on automated postcode search eg: Car insurance quote.

Because I would just put in number 62 (which would show up) just to get a quote my file shows a link to that address. No harm in that as its only for a simple car insurance quote.

However your file with a south london address?... mmm id get in touch with orange and 3 mobile (They are both mobile phone companies) to ask what the score is. Id get intouch with Experian too.

Its probably nothing, but dont let that put you off taking a firm stance and nipping any problems in the bud.

Have you had any odd applications recently?... Things you wouldnt apply for eg: Credit Cards, Sky TV, Phones etc etc...
  • Thanks Z.

Yes, will contact all 3 and see what has gone on here. Have not noticed any odd applications, but will keep my eyes peeled.

    Cheers

Assuming you got the £2 statutory report... If you go to www.experian.co.uk click on 'consumer advice' button, click on 'query your report' tab, click on query your statutory report link. This will open up a new window where you can report the problem(s).

Experian should take the matter up with the companies involved and if all is well, the links will be removed.

    Have your report to hand!

I was linked to a London address. Experion would only remove it if advised by the company who made the original link and the they (mbna) who were not very interested. It took months of pushing to get them to remove it.

I have had a similar problem, the M&S search agreed to remove the lik address however Orange have so far refused. I am currently in discussion with them.

You should get back in touch with Experian immediately because you might actually be a victim of identity fraud. One of the fastest-growing types of identity fraud now is forwarding address fraud, where the fraudster applies for credit using your details from a new address, making out you've recently moved. Experian has a free victims of fraud service and if fraud is confirmed they will help you quickly set the record straight.

  • Have had a reply back from Orange; they confirm that the linked address was created by them as the result of a fraudulent application using my personal details.

They have confirmed that they have told Experian & Equifax to remove the linked address, which is fine, but have supplied no further details. Surely they ought to inform me if they have taken any action against the fraudster.

I will as James recommends, contact Experian.

Not heard from 3G yet, but as I've never been a customer of them (unlike Orange) I expected a slower response.

Thats good news in a way. You know what your dealing with now!

Simple way to keep on top of things is to keep a very close eye on your report for applications you wouldnt normally do.

Orange may add a CIFAS note, but only at the address in London. I dont think they can add one to your file...
