Camping Bed - DIY Option?

Hi everyone
Had a search but could not find anything similar so hoping someone can help. I am wanting to get a comfortable night's sleep while camping and thought of getting a custom cut piece of foam as the bed. This way I can make it nice and thick, and hopefully keep it cheaper than an off the shelf product. I am wondering if anyone has done this before, and indeed is it even worth it? I have seen a few places that will do a cut piece (nice and large for two people) for around £100. This is also really thick and I would guess closer to a foam mattress for a bed vs. a thin camping mat.
I am worried though that it could get mouldy with dreaded condensation in the tent, so thought it would be worth an ask to see what others do when camping for a good night sleep?
Thank you in advance

I think furnishing foam which is presumably what you are considering would be like a sponge. In hot weather you could put is out to air each day but if it is damp or rainy it would very damp after a few days.
It would also be an extremely bulky thing to transport.
There must be better options for your £100 I would think.0 -
I swear by my Thermarest mat, I've slept on mine for months at a stretch and always had a decent night's kip. Have a look at Thermarest dot com and check 'products'.
You can get cheaper versions, e.g. Gelert etc. from about thirty quid, and these are also pretty comfortable, but don't benefit from a lifetime guarantee (this was honoured when one of ours delaminated after 15 years of regular use - no quibbles).0 -
We use an ordinary air mattress. Extremely comfortable. Two singles work even better.0

We used an air mattress with an Ikea mattress topper on it for many years, we also use two duvets, one winter one summer and have one under and one on top depending on the weather. Very comfortable nights sleep.0

we used a piece of foam as a bed in the back of a van for a few month whilst traveling and it was very comfortable but it is very bulky to take camping. We still use a air mattress for tent camping with a blanket underneath and one on top, this helps keep the damp away. We use a double sleeping bag - I have to say my best ever camping purchase makes for a better nights sleep!0
