Just spoken to easyjet, they have advised me to submit a doctors note via their contact us form and allow their specialist team to process it.
Cancellation will refund APD, as others have stated this is £292.
The doctors letter is my next step.

Holidays are supposed to be fun, not miserable:(

    (

where are you getting the APD figure?
not sure on your 'family' but there is no APD on child tickets (under 16) and adult tickets would be £13 each

Flights and holidays do fluctuate in price. I always look around and get what i hope is the best price, but sometimes the price has dropped after. Flight release day is usually a decent price but it then depends on flight sales as to whether prices will go up or down. Flights are very difficult to guage. package hols tend to drop a few weeks before departure, although you take the risk of them selling out. Flights are very unpredictable. I tend to book a flight if i am happy with the price. Sometimes they shoot up, sometimes they drop. Easyjet did used to refund the difference if the flight dropped dramatically but have stopped it now. It is a bit of a gamble booking flights! I am surprised your insurance didn't cover you though. Most policies cancellation policy will cover you if you are unable to travel due to a medical condition. even cheap policies. I paid £16 for a family of 4 to travel to Prague for 6 days, including my pre existing med cond asthma, and that had cancellation cover.

Have another look. I doubt it says APD = £292, more likely "Taxes & Fees" total that amount.

As CAZ says the APD is £13 x 4 adults.

Other taxes, fees are not automatically refundable.

Your right, my invoice shows the total:
Aviation Taxes (APD) 6 per booking 48.68 GBP

If the health challenges do not meet the criteria for insurance compensation that suggests the person(s) concerned are considered fit to fly - in which case I am not sure what the note from the doctor will say that will satisfy EasyJet otherwise.
