giftcard - expired or not?

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I have a 'the mitchell & butlers' dining out card which we recieved as a wedding gift last year. It has been over 12 months since purchase date so I thought it was expired and was about to discard it (it says on the back that they expire after 12 months, which would have been in May). However, I checked the balance using 'show my balance' and it says it expires on 18/08/18. I'm wondering if we should use it, but am worried if it will show as expired when we pay. Anyone have any idea?
The purchase date is shown as 23rd May, which would have been correct as we got married on 28th May, but I'm baffled as to why the expiry is showing as 18th of this month!

I had the same thing with Pizza Express cards.

They should have expired at Xmas but the on line check said June. I used them in April with no problems.

I think the on line date must be right. Surely that is what they check against when you try to use them.

Some gift cards reset the count down each time they are used so did you maybe use it in August last year resetting the 12 months?

That's what I was thinking, and hoping. I think we'll take the chance and see!
