Humax PVR 9150T

My Humax PVR 9150T has stopped working, I think the hard drive has packed up. This model is easy and simple. It suits me ideally as I only use it occasionally. I have seen this model advertised for sale on E Bay and Gumtree for under £20. Obviously it is second hand and apparently they are in working order, but without a remote control. I have kept the remote control from my defunct Humax PVR 9150T. Will I be able to use it to tune in to any Humax 9150T that I purchase. If so at that price it might be worth the gamble!!!

Yes, we have three 9150T's and all 3 remotes work with them all.0

If it's just the HD why not buy one of those for a few quid and try a replacement?
There's only 4 screws on the back of the Humax holding the cover on then another 4 screws holding the HD cradle in place, then another 4 screws holding the HD to the cradle.
Think that the drives are IDE - once you have the cover off if there's a ribbon cable about 3" wide in the back of the drive then it's IDE and these don't cost much - good used ones can be had for little money.
BEFORE REMOVING THE COVER UNPLUG EACH AND EVERY CABLE FROM THE HUMAX AND WAIT A MINIUTE OR SO BEFORE REMOVAL.0 -
Manual, if you don't have one (in pdf)

Or try the official Humax Refurbished site, with a 12 month warranty:

a much bigger hammer.

I had one of these and did exactly as you say. The new disc can be bigger than the original. However, I had the disc lying around. I would not have paid for it. In the OP's position I would probably buy the Tesco complete unit. If they weren't sold out!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Are the harddiscs just blank PC-format with no operating files on?0

The hard drive has to be formatted with the Linux ext3 file system, I think. A google search on this matter should help...0

Looking through the manual I note that this model is connected via SCART sockets. Does your TV have HDMI connections, or just SCART?
If you have HDMI, I would recommend visiting the Humax refurbished site and choosing another device, or going with previous suggestions from Tesco. You will have a better picture and more features. This one will give you so much more:
https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished/hdr-1800t-320gb-5547ad.html- Up to 70 Digital Channels
- 12 in Stunning HD
- BBC iPlayer

- Stream Photos, Music, Video Files
- 1 Year Warranty
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

One note : I have a PVR9200 and have changed the disk over. It is quite particular about the disk it will accept : it has to spin up within a certain time or it is rejected (ignored).
EDIT: But if the 9150 is newer, and uses SATA disks, they probably all spin up okay.
I wasn't aware that old humax's use ext3 - my 9200 certainly doesn't. But it doesn't matter - the box itself should offer the option to format the disk.
- just found a post elsewhere that says someone uses a humaxrw utility to access files from 9150 disk. That's the same util I use on 9200, and it's a proprietry format, not ext3.0 -
It's a while, but ISTR the Humax has an option to format the disc. I certainlydid not format mine in Linux. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
