Faulty service and now car not driveable and garage covered in oil!

Got the car (Ssangyong Tivoli) serviced 2 weeks ago... no issyes reported as only 18 months old.

Around 1 week ago we saw specks of oil so took back and were told the car was not road worthy and a problem with the crankshaft.
2 days to fix and no replacement car - just told where the nearest bus stop was!

Allegedly all fixed but just got back from visiting relatives tonight (round trip of 60 miles) and when reversing car into garage oil everywhere on our drive and garagefloor and funny smell.

Really worried now as reckon car is seriously faulty.

It has a 5 year guarantee but dealer is 30 miles away and doubt they are going to come out and retrieve car. If not anyone idea where I stand on this?

Secondly the mess... have hosed down but reckon there will still be substantial staining to paved driveway and garage floor. Especially annoying as it was reconcreted on floor just 4 weeks ago.

Will phone dealer when they open tomorrow morning but think its just their sales open at weekends. Have RaC cover with homestart but not sure that would help here as it should be dealer fixing this.

Any advice on what to do appreciated. Many thanks!

  • Maybe not the best option but still an option. If you bought autoaid for £40 odd quid would they not transport it there as it couldn't be fixed?

( and then you also get a years breakdown cover )
  • The car is unroadworthy due to the dealer's failure to fix a crankshaft oil seal by the sound of it. See if you can get hold of Ssangyong's UK HQ and complain like hell, demand a courtesy car or you will contact the motoring press.

Hate to say it, but I've worked on Ssangyongs and the build quality is shocking and the parts availability is worse. They are one car I wouldn't go near.

Yeah contact the motoring press, like I was going to rush out tomorrow and buy one until I read this.
  • Worked for us when the OH's Skoda lay down, Car was lifted and taken to another dealer, courtesy car provided and our car returned fixed with a big bouquet of flowers for her in the passenger seat.

Start by checking the warranty. What does it say you should do? Is breakdown cover included with the warranty? Many manufacturers offer that as standard.

You have RAC cover. Why did you take it out if you don't intend to use it? If the warranty doesn't help, give the RAC a ring, and ask them what they can do.

But given that it's now a Friday, the best that is going to happen now is that the car gets towed to the garage to be looked at on Monday.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Thanks everyone for replies so far.

I hosed the the druveway down last night which seems to have partially taken the oil off. Am now going to the shop to buy some coca cola which apparently works in taking oil off too! What w way to spend a Saturday morning!

RAC coverage is through my bank. Got it years ago on a package with worldwide travel insurance. Theyve discontinued to new customers some time backit as was quite a good deal but still have it.

Was wanting car on Sunday so I can take my young nephew back home who jas been visiting. Otherwise its an awkward bus/ train combo on a Sunday.

On the warranty its quite short and just states
    Whats not included
    ... - towing charges
.... - incidental costs and loss of earnings
So enough for them to try and argue they shouldnt pay for taking car back or oil damage to our gatage and driveway but wuite vague too . Anways am going to call them at 9 and demand they take tavk, a courtesy car and pay for cleaningm all reasonable asks I think
  • Coke will not work on driveway I think it is used to mask blood marks on the road by police in the USA but not certain. I made a special mix of wd40, washing up liquid, bio washing powder, shower cleaner, oven cleaner, cotton cleaner and maybe something else into a glass container and make a hole for gas to escape than rub it in with a metal brush, it will leave a mark than when it rains it will wash it away.

But if it is a diesel, the oil is darker and harder to remove. You can hire some cleaning service too but it may cost you.

Soak up as much oil as possible with sand before cleaning to reduce run off pollution.
