My husband is 60 soon but not due to retire till 65 can he still claim his army pension at 60 or does he need to wait till he officially retires

When did he leave the Army and how long did he serve for (likely to be AFPS75, so only regular adult service from age 18 counts).

Then his age and dates of service are really crucial here.

If he left before April 1988 then he needed to have accrued at least 5 years adult service (ie, from age 18) in order to be eligible for a pension.

If he is eligible, then any pension due is payable from age 60 - even if he's still working.

He will need to quote his Service number and/or his National Insurance number when he rings them.


ADD:
Just spotted that you said that he is nearly 60, so all of his service will be adult. As long as it was all regular service (and not reserve) then he should be ok.
