Following advice on here I have now successfully removed the number plate from my trailer board.

Can someone please tell me how I can remove the adhesive double sided tape from the number plate without damaging the backing?

Stanley blade (other brands may have the same effect). Perhaps a bit of heat from a hair drier as well.

Either buy a propriety remover or try some thinners on a cloth.

Acetone i.e. most types of nail varnish remover on a cotton bud or small piece of cloth, have a bucket of warm soapy water handy to wash it away or if you leave it on it may eat through your paintwork.

I told you how to in the previous thread. Get some tar & glue remover and use that.

Is a "propriety remove" a tool or liquid and where can I get it?

It does depend on what the backing is made of, turps and WD40 will not harm other paints, where as thinners could.
