Hello everyone :hello:
The keyboard on my laptop seems to have broken down and, unfortunately, the laptop's under warranty with PC World. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix it so that I can avoid PC World keeping my laptop hostage for a couple of months before helpfully wiping its entire memory.
The problem started when the 'sticky keys' message kept coming up even though I wasn't pressing shift so I restarted the computer and a screen came up saying the CMOS (I may have made that up) was wrong or something. Anyway, it's done that before and all I usually do is press F2 but the button wouldn't work. So I pressed every button on the keyboard
(None of them did anything except half of them beeped) Finally F1 took me to an advanced setup looking screen so I went straight to exit and then my computer was normal.
However, hlaf the keyboard now doesn't work. It's only the letters as far as I can tell, and the broken ones are randomly placed. Off the top of my head, I remember W and M aren't working and U works as the left arrow key (although the left arrow key still works).
Sorry for the long post, hopefully someone can help with all of that info! And I'm a complete techie dunce so you'll need to explain as if talking to a toddler.
Thanks in advance!

Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde

I took our Desktop computer to be repaired by PC World last week and they were great. Why not just pop in to see them you never know you might get a replacement.0

if you have had problems where the cmos has reset itself and you havn't spilt coffee all over it, then take it back & get a replacement.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

you could plug in a normal keyboard in to it, failing that buy a new keyboard for your laptop for abot £60 and fit it yourself0
-
if you haven't spilt anything, you could try reseating the keyboard ribbon cable, you normally have to undo a few screws to do that, but you can sometimes do it by applying light pressure all over the keyboard with the palm of your handEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks for the replies everyone. The link posted by aurora borealis held the key. Keyboard had reconfigured itself to some sort of hidden numerical one or something

Anyway, as you can see it's fixed now! Thankyou for the help :beer:Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde0 -
Not a fix but you could keep working by using windows on-screen keyboard
start/programs/accessibility/on-screen keyboard
Will keep you active untill you get a fix.0
