Hello everyone I’m looking to purchase an iMac but I have a bit of a budget and the new models are not within that. I’m wondering if anatomy could be me Iv been looking at the iMac 2013 and the 2015.. I’ve heard you can upgrade parts such as the ram etc any information would be great on upgrading parts too and where to get these things done I live in the uk. Also if I was to purchase of 2013 or 2015 model And upgrade certain parts would it be worth it? I’m a hobbyist photographer and would like to use it for programs such as lightroom and photoshop, I decided to go for Apple as I have an iPhone and iPad and then all my devices..

Buy a Windows laptop for less money and a better spec.

About the only thing you can easily upgrade on an iMac is the RAM, that's a simple slot-in job. It's a sealed unit otherwise and it doesn't sound like you would have the skills to DIY.
Have you tried the Apple Outlet store for a refurb?

A Windows laptop instead of a Mac desktop? That doesn't really fit the bill/
iMacs are expensive. Have you considered the Mac Mini? Not the cheapest one as it's a very slow processor IIRC, but the one up should be fine. Add a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
For the iMac, the RAM is easily upgraded via a slot under the monitor, but, again, off the top of my head, the hard drive needs the screen to come out of the front!
21 inch iMac will obviously cost less than 27, but 27 will be beautiful for photos.

Only when you buy your first one. Subsequent ones end up being cheaper than a Windows PC due to the fact Macs retain their value far better.

So do guys think I would be better off with a windows desktop? I’m happy to have windows as you can install iCloud so therefore my files will be across all devices

I'm guessing that lightroom and photoshop provide pretty much the same functionality on Mac and Windows. Which OS are you most familiar with?

What is your "bit of a budget"?
Since you state that you are in to photography, your choice of monitor will be important.
Likely your budget won't stretch to a Wide Gamut monitor. You probably don't want one anyway.
Dependent on your level of dedication, you might end up spending more on the monitor than on the PC itself.

My budget is around £500 although I’m willing to stretch it for the right computer. I would say I’m a very enthusiastic amateur photographer

You should really read up on monitors for photographers. The PC itself can be relatively inexpensive and still be more than adequate. Monitor and printer, dependent on the end product, is far more important.
