My boyfriends debt

He extended great effort into escaping this debt by doing things like changing his first and last name by deed poll. he even moved from Scotland to the Republic of Ireland last year. I've tried to convince him to start paying it off now that he has a job that pays better but he is absolutely reluctant. he is adamant that a debt gets written off after 5 years as that is Scottish law, and that he can be happy and carefree after this time has passed.
You need to think very seriously about this.0 -

You sound lovely, and you deserve better than this low-life user (of other people and their money).
Celebrate your escape!:beer:0 -

Yep - red flags everywhere. Your ex-boyfriend has unfortunately learnt that you can escape commitments if you really want to. Who would want to be in a relationship with someone who:
1) Doesn't think he has to face up to anything he has committed to
2) Will change his birth name in order to not face up to commitments
3) Will leave a country for possibly the same reason

Hi lmachine,
Don't take this the wrong way but - you're best off out of it, he sounds like a loser who would let you down and is only out for himself. You can do much better I'm sure.
Do not take him back. Move on and have a great life.
Good luck! x0
