Moving home from prepaid meter to monthly payments

We've been renting and have been using a prepaid meter for both electric and gas. But we've just bought a house and want to pay monthly rather than a meter. How can we work out the cheapest provider? The comparison websites only seem to offer prepaid meter comparisons or comparisons based on your yearly bill rather than figuring out the cheapest for usage?
Any advice? Thanks we don't really want to be sticking with British gas who is the current provider of our new home

Ask present owner what their consumption was, and enter those amounts in comparison site.

You can guess (the energy companies call it an estimate)

Put in around 3500kwh for electricity and 13500kwh for gas and that will give you a starting point as it's the average annual consumption in the UK.

you can then increase or decrease them by 10-15% to see if it makes any appreciable difference to the supplier rankings.

Any estimate is just an estimate but it allows you to get an idea of your costs and monthly DD payments. You then need to monitor your consumption to see how close you are

Put in any tariff as your current supplier: it doesn't matter. You will need to register with BG for an account before you can start a switch.
