I've looked at several kitchens (Harvey Jones (silly price), Howdens (OK), Wickes, Yew Tree (liked but never looked at in detail) and think the Wickes Tiverton Oak will fit the bill. Have had their designer draw up plans and given me a quote for everything, including appliances, granite worktops, fitting.
However I'm very nervous about getting them to fit it - have heard horror stories. And I have a local bathroom/kitchen installer who has done a couple of bathrooms for me, and his attention to detail is excellent, so really would rather use him although he's fully booked until December now.
The downside is that I'll then need to deal with Wickes for the supply of units, possibly another company for the granite (Oxford Stone), my fitter for the installation and plumbing, plus another local builder for removing an internal wall and doing electrics / removing existing tiles and re-plastering / running channels for electric to the island etc.
So anyone got experiences of using Wickes just for units and fitting independently - is the extra hassle worth it?

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

Benchmarx are the trade supplier for Wickes. That's where you should look for hopefully improved pricing if you're going to project manage the lot.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We currently in the middle of having a new kitchen installed by wickes, cannot praise the fitters and building team enough. Yes it was expensive but we have had an internal wall removed, plumbing moved around, a new fuse box and a new gas pipe installed, walls and ceilings re plastered and they are about to start laying a new floor for me as well. The fitters cost when quoted is just an estimate as wickes cannot possibly know what extras could be involved. We have asked for additional works, for example a small stud wall which they are going to plaster. I suppose it all comes down to the fitter that is allocated the job.
We have not had any delays and no worry about project managing the whole thing. The only think I do not like is the chaos we are currently living in!
we just wanted peace of mind and not have to worry about making sure all the right people were in the right place at the right time... 0 -
No, but I can tell you my colleague and his partner had a kitchen supply and install from Wickes, together with removal of a wall plus addition of a steel done by a building company that Wickes put them in contact with and are very happy with the result. I've seen the finished kitchen and it looks fabulous.I

Az Doozergirl mentions, try Benchmarx for a kitchen that is sold by Wickes. It's what I did when I had a kitchen refit soon after moving here. Once cabinet door was found to have slight damage during the fitting process & a quick phone call to Benchmarx resulted in a member of staff dropping of a relacement door an hour or so later. I'd most definitely use them again for any future projects.
I had my own tradesmen lined up to do the installation & sourced the built in appliances, sink & handles myself & saved quite a lot of money by doing things this way.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Have you tried DIY kitchens online for a price?
We are thrilled with ours! Great quality, and their quartz and granite prices were better value than anywhere else.
You will need to find your own fitter.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Shameless hijacking!
Pink Shoes - What was DIY Kitchens granite quality and fitting like? I got my units from them - they're fab. However, my granite fitters have really messed up, so I've asked them to remove it and refund my money. Am tempted to go with DIY Kitchens for granite too.0 -

Haven't had it fitted yet (doing the unit fitting ourselves but got held up by incompetent floor fitter!!), but it comes from a specialist granite/quartz place who come out and template then fit it for you which is included in the price.
I have a hunch you only get their nice prices if you buy the kitchen from them, so phone them up and see what they say, as even the supplier themselves admitted they could not beat or match the price provided by diykitchens!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

I'll call to see what they can do. Got my units from them - great (kitchen fitter said nice quality). Have to re-order pelmets as granite guys thought it was a good idea to drive 3 " screws through the pelmets after they removed them/knocked them off when attempting to fit the work tops :-(0

I can now confirm that the quality of their quartz is superb, and the fitting very professional. Would 100% recommend them. So pleased with my new kitchen!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

There aren't enough pictures on this board of successes. I get bored of looking at damp patches :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
