Freeview through Sky Sat Dish

I spoke to a guy in France - Loire Valley - who claimed he got Freeview Channels through his Sky Dish.
I couldn't believe that could be true and maybe he confused the freesat with freeview but he was quite adamant - said he didn't know how as he bought the house with the sat there.
Can anyone confirm if this is possible? I could believe getting freeview through an aerial on the Channel Coast (possibly) but not away down in the Loire.

as long as you have a yellow house sky card, you can get all the free stuff, depending what part of the country the sky card came from, you will get local bbc news or itv local from that area, I bought an old box off eBay to put in my sons room, he now has the pleasure of watching west country news, although we live in Southampton. I think Sky and eBay tried to clamp down on the selling of cards, so many sellers will show the card in the picture but not mention it in the advert directly, by the way you can get all the differant local channels if you want, I think they are up in the 900's channels, you can search them out if you wanted. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

I think the confusion here is that he's talking about Free to View and not Freeview.FTV is a free digital service via a Satalitte dish and 'Freeview' is a terrestial digital service received using a normal rooftop aerial.0

Freeview is the name of the UK's Digital Terrestrial Video Broadcasting service. Therefore he did not recieve this through a sky dish. Yes it does sound as if he has free sat (skys name for the setup where you only recieve the free to view channels)
To prove it check if he gets channel E4 (Available for free on freeview but is a subscription channel for sky)0 -

Spot on correct.
There is no way anyone can get " Freeview " in the Loire Valley.
They may well get " Freesat " via Sky.0 -

As stated, it's "Freesat". And there's an easy way to prove it. Tell him to select "E4" and tell you what's on. "E4" is on Freeview (but not Freesat) so he won't be able to.

Yes that's what I thought
