Can't remember who all my credit cards/loans were with!

Hi all!

First time poster here! I'm finally going to go down the PPI claim route as I'm sure I must've paid some unwittingly and a few of my friends have been successful. I did a lot of 0% credit card hopping in the early noughties but am struggling to recall all the companies I used.

I've used the Resolver site to contact the ones I can remember - MBNA, Mint, Egg, Capital One etc - however, I got a letter back regarding Egg (from Barclaycard) saying they can't find an account for me. I'm certain I did have an Egg card but I have no paperwork at all for Egg, or for any of my credit cards/loans I took out actually, so I'm relying on the companies to find me! I gave them my maiden name, married name, DOB and previous addresses so I can't think of any more info I can give them. I don't have account numbers or even dates.

I vaguely remember a few years ago getting a credit history report which listed all the companies I've had credit with - what's this? Credit report? Credit history? Credit check? How do I get this? And will it affect my credit rating (create a footprint) if I check it? My credit score is very good.

Also, I remember at the time of switching credit cards way back when, I eventually ran out of companies to switch to because they were actually owned by the same company - for example I couldn't get a XXX card cos I already had a YYY card and they were both under the same parent company if you like. Can anyone tell me if I contact these top tier companies, they'll be more able to find my details? If so, is there a list of these top / parent companies?

Thanks and hope someone can help!
