Club Lloyds

Heads up for those of you thinking of closing your Club Lloyds current account (as I did due to the drop in interest rates) - Make sure to use your free Vue cinema tickets first as they will not be accepted once the account is closed.

Found this out the hard way and am cheesed off this was not mentioned when I called to close the account or could I see it written anywhere.

Also cheesed off they would not issue 6 replacements as a goodwill gesture for being a loyal customer for years plus the fact they should have made some effort to give me a heads up about this - the attitude from the customer service person was awful.

Will not bother with them or their product again needless to say.

  • Well you chose to cancel - why would they offer anything as a goodwill gesture?

Do you see the irony between the above statements? A 'loyal' customer wouldn't leave due to lower rates. ;) That's the thing about loyalty, you don't leave for a better deal as you are loyal to the brand, not the perks. That's not a bad thing. I'm far from loyal. I will go to the best company offering me the best deal for my needs.

On to your point, why would you think you would be entitiled to the perks of an account that you no longer have? For example, if an account offered free travel insurance, I wouldn't expect them to cover for future travels after the closure of the account.

Not sure why you expect to continue to get benefits from a club you are no longer a member of.

To quote from the T&Cs "Club Lloyds Lifestyle Benefits are only available to Club Lloyds account holders"

For other people thinking of closing their Club Lloyds accounts, consider

    1) the value of the Lifestyle Benefits
    2) the value of 1.5% interest with instant access to your money
    3) the value of a regular saver account that allows you to save up to £400 a month with 3% interest and the ability to access your money at any time should you need it.

The person taking the call probably couldn't believe their ears when someone who had closed their account rang up professing their loyalty and demanding a freebie. :D

If you feel you are being treated unfairly then contact their complaints team. Personally I do not.

    I sympathise with the OP.

He met the conditions to receive the incentive. He received the incentive, then the bank took it away.

Compare this to a cash incentive. Very few banks would claw back the cash incentive after it has been paid. Those that do take it back would have mentioned the right to claw back the incentive in their terms.

They invalidated his cinema tickets without warning, possibly leaving him and his young children unable to watch the film they were looking forward to. Obviously he should claim compo for the distress.

To be fair to Lloyds it is in the terms and conditions:
    13. One Lifestyle Benefit is available for each 12 months that you have a Club Lloyds account and if leaving Club Lloyds the benefit may be cancelled at the sole discretion of Lloyds Bank.

I really hope this post is a joke/reference to another poster who makes such claims?

The last sentence was a little tongue in cheek and in the style of Mchambers, but I do sympathise with the OP and thank him for the useful reminder to use the cinema tickets before leaving Lloyds.

I agree with this. I get Cineworld cinema tickets, which are worth over £70 for the six each year, being around what you would get having the maximum £1,500 in a TSB account paying 5% interest. Given that you could pay in the minimum into the Club Lloyds account each month, and then transfer out what is left after the direct debits come out into an account with a higher interest account, the OP does seem to be cutting off his/her nose to spite their face!
