Broken Electricity Meter (NPower)- New tenants

I have new tenants moving into a flat on Sunday but the electricity meter is broken and awaiting repair from NPower.

The tenants and previous tenants have had no end of issues with NPower. Is there any way of moving from NPower with a broken meter and getting the new supplier to fix the meter?

NPower wont speak to me as i do not hold an account with them.

What do you mean by "broken ". ? who broke it ? and what is the damage ?
Npower are unlikely to repair a meter , they replace the meter..Prepayment meters very frequently get used and abused and bypassed by unscrupulous tenants. If they have touched the internals the whole meter is replaced as a matter of course.
Occupiers can be billed for the cost of the meter if any illegal activity on the meter has taken place
Hopefully Npower will replace the meter with a smart meter which will be a tougher proposition to damage or breakdown.
Absolutely forget about switching suppliers with "broken " meters. It is part of the T and C s that occupiers report faulty meters asap. Npower have to get that meter working properly before any attempts to change supplier. Npower will block any transfer with a faulty meter

If there is a period, say a week, between the leaving tenant and the new tenant, then you as LL become responsible for the energy supplied to the premises and therefore should have told Npower that and been given an account number, if only for the example period of a week.

Npower should then talk to you about the supply and accept your report of a broken meter and arrange a fix.

Be wary, though, of a ginormous bill from them of an estimated bill for that one week usage.
