Iresa - Left them months ago now showing huge amount owed !?
A family member left Iresa many months ago and got refunded their credit balance after going to the Ombudsman. Their online account then showed as £0.00 and everything was fine.
After we found out that Iresa have finally closed down we checked the online account yesterday and it is now showing the following:
CURRENT BALANCE
-£236.10
(Account in DEBIT)
We are concerned that whatever has been done that they are going to be chasing my family member for payment that was never owed ?? - The billing online doesn't match up with what it was before either - They made a mess initially but the previous refunds received we had calculated were about right.
Has anyone else had this?

Never been a IRESA customer, but on my energy statement from my supplier a minus figure means Im in credit? i.e my latest statement shows
Payment 30 Jul 2018 Payment from direct debit £99.00 - £350.86
I'm £350.86 in credit. Are you sure its a debt their showing?0 -

@darren72 -suggest you go back thru the bills to see where this debit comes from, assuming that they are still visible and that you have copies of the originals They did have a habit (in the past) of cancelling and reissuing bills. Fear of this sort of shenanigans is why I've cancelled my DD!!0

It isn't at all easy. I'm just concerned that the new provider taking over is going to start chasing us for a debt that isn't correct.
I assume the fact we went through the Ombudsman and have confirmation from there that we were in credit should be sufficient to get this resolved.0 -
Somebody in another thread said a DEBT will not transfer to the new supplier. The administrators of IRESA may try chasing you for a debt owed. Make sure you go back while you can and print out your account activity. It should show all payments in and out so you should be able to trace where this suspect debt arose from.
Also print any documents confirming when you left and anything you can find showing the ballance as £0 when you had left.
All this documentation can then be presented to the administrators if they ever try chasing you. If you are SURE there is no debt, give them the evidence and if they still contest it tell them you will see them in court where you will again present your evidence.0 -
I've found what the problem is. We left them in December and got the final meter reading confirmed and submitted.
For some reason in April they have added another meter reading (completely incorrect) so have then billed for another £236. The meter reading they have used was over 2000 higher than the final submitted one.
I'm not sure why they have messed around with the account in April when we left in December and it was all finalised then.
I'm sure this should be fairly straightforward to sort out if need be with the fact the new provider started with the correct reading back in December.
Fingers crossed.0 -

No, I don't think so - Only just reached that meter reading over the last few days. Still very worrying.0 -
I have the same, there are several estimated readings for months after I left (way above actual usage too).
Hopefully the fact the charges are after I left will make the error obvious, but I kept meticulous records while I was with them (even calculating the CV for the gas based on the national grid daily figures), so I know I don't owe them one penny (if anything, they owe me a few pence of interest).
If the Administrators do contact me I'll provide that information along with a denial of any debt. If they were foolish enough to proceed to a court claim I'd file a counterclaim for unreasonable behaviour and misuse of my data under the DPA.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
