These have been in the News this week. But does anybody know why the Badges are blue, but the parking bays are often painted yellow?

They got a massive discount on the yellow paint. They paint very thick yellow lines so that blind drivers can see them.

It's because the man doesn't like colour co-ordination. And think about it. Blue and yellow mix to make green. The colour of Uncle Sam's money. Now look at the $1 bill and tell me this isn't a plot by the Illuminati.

So close... Expect a knock on the door very soon.. The green element is actually Aliens. You appear to know far too much about this subject.

The MIB will be around soon. Have your pyjama's and a toothbrush ready.

It's all a subversive take-over bid by the Swedes.

Well, it was originally the Orange Badge Scheme but blue was adopted to harmonise with Europe and the European ethos of our currant traffic signing system post 2000.

The use of yellow has a much more complex history and has been brought-in bit by bit since the 1950s, which led to quite a bit of contradiction/confusion, esp when the repeal of certain sections of the Road Traffic Act in 1972 left them with no legal purpose for quite some years (oops..!) - but at its simplest, the use of yellow identifies an area under a particular form of statutory regulation. Some attempt to bring the different forms of yellow into a more logical "System" was also attempted in 2000 but TBH, it still isn't fully cohesive.

Maybe because those painted yellow are in private car parks, which have nothing to do with the blue badge scheme.

Probably a combination of yellow paint is cheap, it stands out a bit compared to the faded white, and psychologically yellow paint on the road makes us feel there is some official parking restriction that we have to comply with.
