Consumer Rights with Garage

Just looking for some advice about consumer rights with garages; the short story is that my car aircon stopped working so I brought the car to an aircon specialist garage.

They run their diagnostic and concluded it was a problem with the condenser and compressor and that they needed replacing. Fair enough, the order the parts (£900 worth) tried to install the parts but couldn't finish the job.

To get the car I paid (no other way around), and they told me that they would refer it to another garage but never did. I brought the car to the other garage myself and according to them all parts are connected correctly but the air con still is not working.

Given that the problem is not resolve and I have now £900 worth of parts that I can't use, what recourse do I have on the first garage?

Probably none, as you agreed to the work, and you can't prove the parts didn't need replacing.

Take it to an air-con specialist, there isn't much left to change (the evaporator nozzle blocks up with debris from a failing pump and is most likely the problem now)

You took a car to them with non-functional aircon.

They diagnosed a duff compressor and condenser, and replaced them. It still didn't work.
Perhaps the compressor and condenser were actually faulty, and that the continued non-functioning is a separate fault? I'm guessing here that it's electronic climate, and the compressor isn't being told to operate - which isn't going to be easy to find out without pressure in the system, because the electronics wouldn't be getting the signal to allow the compressor to be operated.

surely if a garage agrees to take the work in, they're responsible to finish it?

You said they couldn't finish the job. Why? Too much work on or not capable of doing it?

You can't force them to finish the job.

Not capable of doing. What do you mean I can't force them to finish the job?
Surely there must be some trading standards on Services?

If you hold them at gunpoint, or kidnap their families, it wont increase their capability now will it? :D

If they can't do it, they can't do it, they charge you for what they have done.

What does the air-con specialist say is wrong?

Why would you want to force someone to do work on your car that they're not capable of doing?
