I have got loads of old 6x4 colour photos of the family that I want to scan to jpeg format so that I can send them off to Photobox or someone and have them made into photo albums to give to my family members.
My old HP Officejet R45 is probably way past it's best by date and I have seen the
CANON LIDE 25 SCANNER
for about £35. Would this do the job for me? I'm a bit confused because it says it scans to PDF but does anyone know if it also scans to jpeg?
Or would I just be better to buy a new All-in-One? What resolution do I need if the albums will include photos only up to about 8" x 6"?

Sorry it would appear I swallowed too many of the clown pills.
BTW our Canon MP does excellent scans of photos, slides and negatives.0 -
That Canon scanner would be fine for your needs. I'm assuming it's from an Amazon Marketplace seller. If yes, make sure you ask them exactly what you're buying before doing so. Some can be refurbished (or another lesser model) & not worth it IMO.
Scanning at 150-300dpi should be more than sufficient for photos upto 8x6". If the file sizes of the resultant scans get too large (say 3Mb+), you can always resize them slightly in a photo editor before uploading to Photobox. You can find Photobox's resolution guide here.
All-in-ones can be very tempting especially considering the prices these days, but they require ink cartridges which can be quite expensive. If you'll be buying it to replace a printer, then go for it. Ask people's opinions about its quality & ink costs before buying. G0 -

Just stumbled across this thread just wanted to say I bought this scanner when my old one packed in and to be honest I think my older scanner was better TBH! This thing is really compact construction is ok but it isn't quick and I am not convinced with the colours but that's my opinion. If you can stretch get a scanner which uses a tube (99.99% of them!) and not LED's because I personally think that is where the problem lies!0
