On the carpet on my stairs. Tried Rug Doctor several times, and the vinegar/washing up liquid/water thing, to no avail. Help!

I suspect you might be stuck with it now. All those various solvents you've experimented with will have well and truly embedded the stain.0

Thanks both.
Anyone know what the next port of call is if the home remedies fail? Carpet cleaning specialists or something?0 -
If it's on the stairs, perhaps see if you can get a matching section of carpet.0

If your carpet is synthetic, you probably stand a good change of removing the stain. I the carpet is wool or similar and it absorbs, and the coffee has become a dye, then it could be a different story0
