Egg Card Repayment Protection (PPI) claim

I can't remember if I had PPI and I don't have the paperwork from opening the account. All I have is the confirmation that the account was closed from Barclaycard, from which I was able to quote the last 4 digits (as required by Resolver). I was made redundant and was out of work for a few months during the time I had the CC, so if I did have PPI and didn't realise it, it wasn't communicated very well as I might well have tried to claim.
Regardless, Barclaycard have written to me as follows:
"Our records show that you have had other card numbers linked to this card [I'm assuming this was a student Barclaycard I had with Barclaycard themselves, since closed]. These linked card numbers are shown above and will be included in our investigation.
We have been unable to find a PPI policy on your account using the information you have provided or that we currently have available on our internal systems. Our investigations has included checking your account for evidence of a PPI policy or premiums that you paid.
I am sorry that without identifying a PPI policy on your account I am unable to investigate this further and your complaint will be closed."
Is this likely to mean that I didn't have PPI? What more information can I provide them, in the absence of the original paperwork? They've presumably found my file to link it with the other one.
I have changed my name due to marriage before closing the account, but provided both names. I opened it up with a now-defunct email address, which is presumably where all the paperwork was sent (I've tried to retrieve it, but it no longer exists).
I provided a previous address (although I updated my address before closing the account), but not the address where I was living when I opened the account - should I just give them all my previous addresses or am I wasting my time?
Thanks!
SJD

I posted to ask for assistance and support. If I wanted judgement, I'd have called my mother.
90% of the stories I read about PPI claims seem to start in the same way - 'I had no info, but I threw in a claim anyway'.
I feel that I have a genuine basis for a complaint if I did have PPI, as I didn't realise I could have claimed when I was made redundant. What I'm asking is whether it's worth pursuing, if they're is likely to be more forthcoming if I send the right information or - on the basis of Forumite experience it's likely that I didn't have a policy so it's not worth the bother?Worker in, and passionate advocate of, the credit union movement. You had no info, threw in a claim and the bank have told you they have no evidence you had PPI. Provide them with some or the complaint is over
That complaint reason is not valid, not claiming on a policy doesn't make it miss-sold. Many people have bumps and scrapes in their car and don't claim on their car insurance, doesn't mean it was miss-sold.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes but I like to be facetious from time to time when people ignore good advice because it's not what they want to hearSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

It's not so much the advice that I have an issue with, as the way that it's presented.
If neither of you think I have a claim, that's fine, that's what I came on here to ask.
I don't intend to 'ignore good advice' - it's more that when the advice comes with a heavy dose of unnecessary judgement and snark, it makes it difficult to disentangle.
