Nationwide Objection to PPI payment based on timescales

Hello forum,
My PPI complaint with Nationwide is with the Ombudsman, who tell me that Nationwide is raising an objection into looking at my complaint as it's over six years after it happened and more than three years since I would have realised or known I had cause to complain.
Can they do this?
Nationwide put PPI on my 1st mortgage without my request or permission, without making it clear it was optional. When I subsequently took out my 2nd and 3rd mortgage without PPI, Nationwide never told me that I was under-insured as the PPI only covered my first mortgage, basically making it worthless.
I paid PPI on my 1st mortgage for 11 years, and in all that time they never told me, probably as it would have highlighted the fact that it was optional payment that they had put on my account without my request.
I do not know where I stand as the Ombudsman is trying to resolve this, is this not a clear example of mis-selling and can they object due to the timescales?
They have all the documentation as I have never moved my mortgage from Nationwide.
Any advice appreciated....

Yes. if they have met the 3/6 year time bar requirements.Nationwide put PPI on my 1st mortgage without my request or permission, without making it clear it was optional.
That is a weak complaint reason. Almost certainly it will show as optional. Also, for a lot of the years, Nationwide were giving it away free for 12 months and then wrote around month 10/11 letting you know the free period was expiring and asked you if you wanted it or not. So, if yours was one of these, this makes it clear it was optional. When I subsequently took out my 2nd and 3rd mortgage without PPI, Nationwide never told me that I was under-insured as the PPI only covered my first mortgage, basically making it worthless.
Did you ask them if you were adequately insured?
Did you use an adviser for the further advances or do it direct/online or use one of the non-advised bank clerks?I paid PPI on my 1st mortgage for 11 years, and in all that time they never told me, probably as it would have highlighted the fact that it was optional payment that they had put on my account without my request.
They did tell you every month on your statement.I do not know where I stand as the Ombudsman is trying to resolve this, is this not a clear example of mis-selling and can they object due to the timescales?
1 - it is not a clear example of misselling. It is your side of the story many years after the event. The facts could easily show a different story. Such as you not ready the documentation
2 - The reasons at this stage are irrelevant as if the timebar is valid, the complaint wont ever be looked at.
You need to wait to see if the FOS decide the timebar is correct or not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
