Cycle carrier failed and bike damaged, can I claim?

    I would expect the insurance company to pay for any damage to other vehicles. The only get-out might be if they consider a bike rack to be a modification - but in that case the RTA requires them to pay the third parties. But they could potentially seek reimbursement from you.



    I guess you're fortunate that you're not facing those claims, or a charge for carrying an insecure load.
  • Look at your policy schedule and see if you have Personal Possessions cover. If you do, look at the 'Definitions' section of your policy booklet (the policy schedule tells you your level of cover, the policy booklet has all of the perils and exclusions listed - they are not the same thing), and under the Personal Possessions section, see if cycles are excluded. If they are, you're boned.

    If cover does exist for your cycle, then there is probably a limit for cycles not specified on the policy.
